Spending Distribution
The pooled Endowment distributes a ‘spending distribution’ to Purdue annually in May and November.
The distribution supports the University, specific school, scholarships, etc. as laid out in each individual Endowment agreement. The spending distribution amount is based on a formula and is a percentage (up to 5%) of the average ending market value for the Endowment for the prior 12-quarters. Utilizing 12-quarters allows for smoothing, avoiding large fluctuations in the distributed amount year over year.
The Spending Distribution policy is housed and governed within the Endowment Investment Policy Statement. The Purdue Research Foundation Office of Investments and Investment Committee review annually against best practices within peers and discuss with external consultants to ensure the appropriate balance between maximizing short-term support to Purdue and preserving capital for the long-term.
