Essential Functions

  • Responsible for oversight and management of development operations, donor relations and stewardship activities in support of fundraising goals of the School of Management and Purdue University. 
  • Assist with managing day-to-day operations, reporting, and work flow of the Management development office.
  • Oversee the annual fund activities of the School of Management and provide direct fundraising support to the development team.

Additional Responsibilities

Development Operations

  • Develop and maintain a standard operation manual for the Management development office procedures, including written practices.
  • Manage the operations and work flow of the development office in conjunction with the Chief Development Officer to ensure the smooth operation of the development office.
  • Ensure donor calls and requests for assistance are handled in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with onboarding of new staff and cross-training with Administrative Assistants on core functions.
  • Oversee the work of a graduate assistant and/or student worker on various development projects as directed.

Donor Stewardship

  • Serve as a resource for alumni and donors on development-related issues, requests and visits.
  • Respond to donor inquiries with accurate and timely information.
  • Write, prepare, and disseminate donor correspondence and reports including providing donors with stewardship and financial reports.
  • Assist and/or participate in donor engagement activities.
  • Serve as an internal liaison with Management’s alumni, external relations and special events office to coordinate donor visits and special events.

Stewardship

  • Develop and implement a best in class comprehensive stewardship program for Management’s development office to aid in the retention, effective stewardship and renewed support of donors at all giving levels.
  • Manage a stewardship portfolio of 25+ donors.
  • Oversee the processing of all gifts coming into the School to ensure timely and accurate acknowledgement; and
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for gift processing and stewardship.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation and expenditure of donor funds.
  • Craft acknowledgement letters and stewardship communications for the Dean and Chief Development Officer.
  • Prepare informative and timely gift reports for development and departmental use.

Annual Fund and Fundraising Support

  • In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, develop and implement an annual fund strategy for the School that recruits, retains and stewards donors at the $1,000 - $25,000 level.
  • Coordinate Purdue Day of Giving efforts.
  • Write solicitation letters, coordinate annual fund activities with the University Development Office and assist with creating marketing materials for the annual fund.
  • Design a process for Dean’s Club membership and related mailings, stewardship, and events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be self-motivated, hardworking and resourceful with a determination to succeed.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills required. 
  • Strong ability to multi task and meet deadlines.
  • Adept with technology and databases and reporting.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal required.
  • Strong customer service orientation. 
  • Knowledge of fundraising and stewardship best practices and principles required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Five years of development, donor relations, stewardship, business management or related experience.
  • Minimum of two years of management-level experience preferred.
