Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, College of Agriculture

Essential Functions

  • Manage the College of Agriculture’s corporate and foundation relations initiatives in consultation with the Senior Director, Chief Development Officer, Dean, the Associate Deans, faculty, and development staff in the College of Agriculture and the University Development Office Corporate and Foundation team.
  • Secure major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the unit leadership, their programs, disciplines, and the University, with an expectation of raising a minimum of $2M annually.
  • Provide leadership to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, College of Agriculture.
  • Partner with University Development Office leadership and the central office of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
  • Build strategic relationships with and secures investment from companies and foundations to support the strategic academic plans and priorities of the College.
  • In partnership with the Senior AVP coordinate with corporate engagement offices across campus, including, but not limited to the Office of Corporate and Global Partnerships, the Purdue Research Foundation, and the Office for Research and Partnerships.
  • Host corporate and foundation representatives during campus visits, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively, identify sources of industry support for research and educational funding objectives.
  • Manage the College of Agriculture’s corporate and foundation relations’ designated staff and activities.
  • Cultivate and establish long-term relationships with strategic organizations.
  • Solicit corporate and foundation funding and support for research and educational opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and coordination in the preparation, cultivation and solicitation process, including writing funding proposals for corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Interact regularly with corporate and foundation representatives.
  • Make initial, exploratory, and actual solicitation visits to corporations and foundations related to the field of agriculture.
  • Determine needs of corporations and match these with Agriculture’s strategic objectives, including undergraduate and graduate program support, diversity initiatives, industry education and training initiatives and research.
  • Establish effective stewardship and reporting systems for Agriculture’s corporate and foundation relations activities.
  • Develop and implement annual and long-term strategic plans to meet goals with corporate and foundation sponsors.
  • Plan and implement Agriculture’s corporate and foundation relations initiatives and priorities with the Chief Development Officer, Agriculture and the Senior AVP.
  • Work collaboratively with other corporate and foundation relations directors across campus to maximize and leverage opportunities, communicating effectively and regularly attending CFR meetings and workshops.
  • Continually pursue professional development opportunities including leadership in and service to national organizations.
  • Provide oversight for all activities with corporate clients and leadership in coordination corporate relations activities across the College.
  • Identify and interact with key Purdue contacts.
  • Provide support for senior University officers in their visits, contacts and/or communication with corporate prospects.
  • Other work related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop corporate relationships, solicit and secure gifts and write successful funding proposals.
  • Understanding of corporate commercial and research development activities is preferred.
  • Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Manage support staff.
  • Knowledge of University fundraising is preferred.
  • Knowledge of programs in the College of Agriculture is preferred.
  • Ability to travel and perform evening and weekend duties as required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of corporate relations experience and/or related work experience.
  • Prefer experience in a University setting.
