Essential Functions:

  • Provide stewardship to donors by promoting awareness of the Purdue Center for Cancer Research.
  • Execute new and existing cultivation and stewardship opportunities to donors and potential donors of the Purdue Center for Cancer Research. 
  • Oversee all events for the Center, encompassing the entire planning process, ranging from dinners for 10 to events that bring in over 2500 people.
  • Stay connected with existing donors and recruit new donors to the Center by updating them on what is happening at the Center.
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to establish a Marketing and Communications plan to promote the Center.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Define and manage stewardship process including acknowledgement letter process, new donor packets and overseeing donor recognition events.
  • Create, write, edit and mail the annual report, PCCR newsletter, Elks Publication and any other media for the Center. Work with Purdue’s Marketing and Media and other vendors for design and writing needs.
  • Oversee holiday and birthday card program.
  • Oversee website changes for faculty, staff and program areas; add news, grant awards, stories and event links as needed.
  • Manage Direct Mail campaign, including meeting all deadlines set for copy editing and data file delivery.
  • Update mailings to represent happenings at the Center.
  • Facilitate memorial, honorary and general gifts to the Center.
  • Secure and maintain new sponsors for events, such as The Challenge, including cash, media and in-kind donations.
  • Work with the University Events staff to plan outreach activities.
  • Engage businesses around the community to provide booths at Health Fairs, meetings, and presentations throughout the year.
  • Plan meetings for the advisory board twice per year, including organizing logistics, securing speakers and planning activities for the board members.
  •  Steward members throughout the year as well as recruit new members each year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively write and deliver verbal presentations in front of an audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent website design ability using Dreamweaver and Delivra.
  • Familiarity with email marketing software.
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator a plus.
  • Ability to represent the University and Purdue Research Foundation with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent relationship-building and event planning skills.
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles including a general understanding of annual giving, direct mail, donor relations and stewardship.
  • Ability to travel, evening and weekend duties required.
  • Strong interest in cancer research preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of donor/public relations, event planning, development and/or related experience required.
  • University experience preferred.
