Essential Functions

  • Oversee the station’s Membership program, determining the goals and objectives needed for program growth.
  • Develop and execute a plan to bring donors to the Unit and the University through active use of the development process of the major gifts.
  • Develop and execute a plan to achieve the station’s annual revenue goals through a coordinated development plan that includes membership and major and planned gifts.
  • Cultivate donor relationships and advance collaborative initiatives needed to meet the strategic goals of the Unit leadership and the University with the goal of raising $250K gifts annually.
  • In consultation with the Senior Associate Vice President for Advancement, identify and establish personal contact with current and prospective major gift donors whose interest and financial capacity have the greatest likelihood of meeting the Unit and University fundraising goals.

 Additional Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualifications, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with appropriate development and station staff to develop prospect strategies and build relationships.
  • Manage station’s major gifts club and set up specific goals and objectives to effectively advance toward solicitation of major gifts.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination with Unit’s corporate and business partners and various unit and University constituencies.
  • Set goals and participate in station’s semi-annual Membership drives; host or co-host annual dinner and additional development-related receptions and other community and donor events as appropriate.
  • Work with the University and station support staff to ensure proper stewardship of gifts, including administration of databases and acknowledgement processes, and working with the University Development Office on appropriate recognition of major and planned gifts.
  • Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the Unit.
  • Assist as needed with the Unit staff and University Advancement staff to plan and implement the advancement program for the unit including development, alumni relations, and marketing and communications for advancement.
  • Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports, using UDO’s prospect management systems.
  • Report regularly on the progress toward the Unit’s annual action plan.
  • Become adept at using the advancement database in support of major gift activities.
  • Continually improve professional competency through participation and/or leadership in professional organizational and other not-for-profit organizations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate well in writing.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to represent the University and station with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principal, especially as they apply to public radio.
  • Ability to perform some travel and weekend duties required.
  • Willingness to participate in training and other professional development activities.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of finance and planned giving desired.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Experience in fundraising that includes solicitation of gifts required.
  • Experience in public radio is a plus but is not required.
