Essential Functions

  • Compose and/or edit personalized thank you letters/notes to major donors for signature by the President and Vice President for Development with five day turnaround from the date the gift is received by gift processing.
  • Compose and/or edit correspondence for the Vice President for Development, and the University President.
  • Prepare Board of Trustee donor recognition and naming opportunity resolutions and send to the donors at the conclusion of each Board meeting.
  • Compose appropriate correspondence for all donor inquiries/expressed concerns forwarded from the President’s Office in an effort to resolve issues and encourage ongoing participation by the donor.
  • Maintain and update social media platforms for the President’s Council in collaboration with the UDO Communications staff.
  • Initiate and compose monthly donor stewardship stories for publication on the President’s Council website by identifying President’s Council members to feature and interviewing them for the story production.
  • Develop content for all President’s Council communications to include but not limited to invitations, email and website communications.
  • Maintain and update President’s Council (PC) and Purdue Foundation Student Board (PFSB) websites, updating and keeping content fresh.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Compose $5 million and above proposals for top university donors on behalf of, and in conjunction with, the Vice President for Development and Associate Vice Presidents for Development. Understanding the nature and scope of the proposal to be presented, help build a compelling case, obtain supporting documentation, and design final product for delivery to donor.
  • Manage process for communicating with Board of Trustees, Donors, and Development Officers all named and distinguished professorship ratifications by maintaining the database within UDO.
  • Coordinate stewardship booklets for the faculty in the named positions and share appropriate information with the donor upon ratification.
  • Manage all President’s Council communications by working with the Senior Director to identify donor stories, timeliness for the web and email updates to all President’s Council members.
  • Write and/or edit library of templates from Marketing and Media for approval by the president’s office semiannually.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of individualized stewardship plans for major gift donors in collaboration with the Associate Director of Donor Relations.
  • Assist with the communication efforts of projects organized by the PFSB including Pay it Forward, Why Give, Purdue Day of Giving and others as they develop.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, ability to compose and edit written communications, organizational planning, independent thinking, problem solving, and creativity in designing effective donor stewardship messages and programs.
  • Highly developed understanding of the need for a coordinated, holistic, campus-wide approach to stewardship.
  • Must be able to prioritize competing requests for service according to area needs and plans.
  • Must be able to use discretion and sound judgment regularly in disseminating highly sensitive information about University stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, persuasive ability, public relations and the ability to inspire confidence and cooperation within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Knowledge of university academic, business services and fundraising is a plus but not required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in public relations, customer service, communications, marketing or related field.
