DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the organization, initiation, implementation, and reporting of a comprehensive annual giving plan including five or more direct mail and email campaigns, with the purpose of cultivating and soliciting alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and friends of the University with the goal of increasing annual giving to Purdue (funds raised and number of donors) through acquisition, renewal, reactivation, and upgrades.
  • Functions as a communication and marketing strategist, content producer, and project manager.
  • Works to optimize philanthropic support across the University through direct marketing strategies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a comprehensive schedule and coordinate production of communications projects on time and within budget.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of Annual Giving communications, making critical adjustments, and recommendations when necessary.
  • Work in coordination with a graphic designer to produce creative mailings and emails with visual appeal and compelling philanthropic messages.
  • Provide and oversee operational support to campaigns, including the identification of audience segmentation, submitting data requests and appeal tracking, deadline management, proofing, printing, mailing and emailing materials.
  • Blend fundraising knowledge, and successful communication practices to deliver inspirational content, which promotes philanthropy and secures annual and leadership gifts through multiple channels (print and digital).
  • Prepare, analyze, summarize data and statistics, and provide detailed reports to Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship with recommendations for continued success.
    • Maintain vendor relations.
    • Participate in strategy meetings and assist with planning the central Annual Giving solicitation calendar.
    • Assist with data management, including identifying standard exclusions and audience segmentation.
    • Perform other development –related assignments and special projects as requested by supervisor, including, but not limited to recommendations for an anniversary program, in addition to upgrade and retention strategies.
    • Perform proofing and copy editing as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work closely, collaborate, develop, and maintain relationships with colleagues in the central annual giving and stewardship office, in addition developing effective partnerships throughout the University to enhance the understanding of annual giving benefits.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit materials for print and electronic based fundraising (cultivation, solicitation and stewardship) pieces.
  • Broad knowledge of annual giving practices in a higher education setting desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and persuasive communication skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, public relation skills, and the ability to inspire confidence and cooperation to drive positive results within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Personal computer and related software skills.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills with precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, assuming responsibility, prioritizing and carrying out duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must have the ability to pivot effectively between different projects, voices, and channels with the ability to multitask.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years of experience; fundraising and direct mail experience preferred.
