Assistant Director of Annual Giving Stewardship

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions

  • Market the message that giving back to Purdue is appreciated, worthy, important, and desirable as loyal alumni and friends of Purdue. 
  • Conduct stewardship services to annual giving donors for the purpose of retaining and upgrading donors in coordination with the annual giving plan, UDO Communications Office, college and unit stewardship coordinators, President’s Council and Donor Services.
  • Develop strategies to recognize and increase engagement and philanthropic support to build and nurture Purdue’s relationship with its alumni and donors and increase retention rates.

Additional Responsibilities

Annual Giving Donor Stewardship

  • Create and maintain gift acknowledgement flow chart.
  • Coordinate central stewardship efforts with those across campus and system units for acknowledging, recognizing, and communicating with donors about the impact of their annual gift level donations.
  • Use multi-channel strategies (phone, email, mail, social media etc.) that will increase donor renewal rates.
  • Coordinate with Donors Services and units to create a seamless operation for acknowledging annual giving donors, with a focus on central general gift funds.
  • Coordinate stewardship and donor impact messaging with annual giving solicitation messaging.
  • Gather student stories and quotes for use in stewardship efforts, including upkeep of the scholarship story bank.
  • Update donor online confirmation page to create a more donor centric experience
  • Work with the Rally Line and direct marketing staff to implement stewardship strategies and create specific messages.
  • Learn measurement tools for receiving feedback from donors.
  • Track the results of the retention strategy and provide monthly retention reports
  • Create annual giving thank you emails, postcards, and videos, specifically at calendar year-end and fiscal year-end, in coordination with the UDO Communications Office.
  • Work with team to upkeep the Leadership and Loyalty dashboard on PurdueConnect, as well as the Griffin Society webpage and update information on annual basis
  • Facilitate the operations side of the new scholarship thank you letter process

Coordination of Donor Retention and Loyalty Programs

  • Implement strategic plan to recognize first time and milestone donors, retain donors, and build loyalty through Griffin Society initiatives.
  • Manage a dynamic first time donor plan coordinated with unit stewardship staff, using strategies including mail, email, social media and phone applications that will increase donor retention.

Stewardship for Donor Services Programs

  • Coordinate with Assistant Director of Donor Services to inform donors when a matching gift is received and thank them for matching gift funds.
  • Create and implement a strategy to thank and upgrade payroll deduction and recurring gifts.

Other

  • Return messages to alumni, donors, and friends and follow-up on gift form requests
  • Manage the annual giving email inbox and respond appropriately
  • Follow up on comments and requests for more information from those called by the Rally Line
  • Design and implement usage of standard gift forms for donor requests.
  • Prepare thank you notes and other correspondence in response to annual giving appeals
  • Conduct surveys to monitor alumni/donor satisfaction.
  • Design and maintain the process for handling drop-off emails from those who started the online gift process but did not complete it.
  • Perform proofing and editing as needed. 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and personal computer skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to use social media tools.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively required. 
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this position.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Donor relations, stewardship and/or marketing experience is preferred.
