Database Administrator

Position Summary:

The Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our database environments. They are also responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of data structures and reports.                                                       

*Employees are expected to adhere to all rules and regulations applicable to this position, including but not limited to all policies and procedures pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Integrity and Security:
    • Install, configure, and test Microsoft SQL Server Services (Database Engine, Reporting Service, Integration Service)
    • Configure SQL Server monitoring and alerting
    • Control access permissions and privileges
    • Work with the infrastructure team to develop, manage, and test back-up and recovery plans
    • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
    • Ensure data remains consistent across various databases and is defined clearly
  • Data Access and Reporting
    • Develop and update reports as well as perform ad-hoc reporting for business units
    • Verify the accuracy of data contained in reports working with the business when needed to do so
    • Work with the development team in order to create or update data queries, views, etc. to capture, store, and present data as required
  • Performance:
    • Monitor performance and manage parameters to provide appropriate response times to front-end users
    • Design indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes
    • Improve query performance and troubleshoot issues with developers as needed
  • Data Structure and Database Design
    • Design and develop data models and schemas to improve accessibility, efficiency, and quality of data in order to support Credit Union initiatives
    • Design and develop solutions (e.g., ETL processes) for integrating data across multiple platforms
    • Create and maintain technical documentation for new and existing data solutions
  • Work with management to prioritize tasks and technical issues during all phases of software development
  • Display a professional attitude in dealing with supervisors, coworkers, members, and others inside and outside the credit union

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-6 years of proven experience in database administration, data analysis and reporting
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
  • Advanced SQL Database Management skills, must be able to design complex data structures with data flow to and from multiple sources and destinations
  • Advanced Report creation abilities, taking data from multiple sources, joining the appropriate pieces of data and providing relevant reporting data from complex sources
  • Experience with Microsoft SSRS and Power BI reporting tools
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
  • Experience in performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery and High Availability options for Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong organizational and interpretation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees, members, vendors and company contacts
  • Ability to follow the core values of honesty, integrity, mutual respect, pride and ownership 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a clerical office setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets
  • This position requires sitting, bending, stooping or standing as necessary
