Essential Functions

  • Build and lead a sophisticated social media program that promotes the Purdue for Life Foundation.
  • Create and manage a wide variety of social media content that engages alumni, donors, and friends with Purdue University.
  • Optimize content across all Purdue for Life–related channels, ensuring content follows Purdue for Life’s style guide and Purdue University’s editorial and visual branding guidelines.
  • Maintain a content calendar shared with all members of the content strategy, editorial, and project management team.
  • Explore new opportunities to elevate the reach and engagement of Purdue for Life social media content while keeping up with ever-evolving social media marketing trends.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the organization’s social media management tool, and provide training and support for team members and stakeholders working with the tool.
  • Work closely with the marketing and communications leadership team to provide reports and other data.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life staff (fundraisers, donor relations and engagement staff, special events staff, Purdue for Life leadership) to complete projects on time and with high quality.
  • Identify new marketing strategies for Purdue for Life.

Additional Responsibilities

  • When relevant, work with colleagues across campus to distribute Purdue for Life–related social media content via Purdue University and unit-managed channels.
  • Review and edit video captions as needed.
  • Conduct photo research and assist with photo and video shoots as needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent proofreading and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High level of creativity.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision, prioritize assignments to meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems while being flexible.
  • Ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, persuasive ability, and the ability to inspire confidence and cooperation to drive positive results within and across the organization’s boundaries.
  • General understanding of marketing material design.
  • General understanding of the need to cultivate and steward donors at any giving level.
  • Personal computer and related software skills.
  • Knowledge of Purdue University and its fundraising history is a plus, but not required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Liberal Arts (e.g. English, Communications, Writing, Journalism)
  • A minimum of three years of social media management experience, including experience in each of the following: community management, strategy development, campaign management, content creation, data analysis and reporting, and paid media.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may substitute for a degree.
