Business Development Manager-Semiconductors, Office of Technology Commercialization

Essential Functions

  • Commercialization of Purdue technologies, primarily in electrical and computer engineering, through licensing.
  • Identify and initiate discussion with stakeholders for Purdue technologies.
  • Perform commercial viability analyses and develop strategies to enable technology transfer of Purdue intellectual property.
  • Work closely with Purdue innovators to develop commercialization and intellectual property strategies.
  • Perform technology valuations, market analyses and competitive landscapes.
  • Negotiate, draft, and execute transactional agreements including, license, option, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in the fields of electrical, computer engineering, and/or computer science for the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) business development and intellectual property team.
  • Share knowledge about OTC processes and Purdue’s IP policy with Purdue innovators.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders into Purdue’s commercialization ecosystem.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Accountable for coordinating and managing budget expenditures associated with all assigned duties.
  • Provide input and guidance on intellectual property matters in sponsored research agreements and industry collaborations.
  • Work closely with members of the entrepreneurship and venture capital communities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the following:
    • Electrical engineering, semiconductors, metasurfaces and/or device communication.
    • Related industry experience in semiconductors or device fabrication is highly desirable.
    • Working knowledge of intellectual property.
    • Knowledge of technology transfer and/or licensing.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Negotiate business agreements.
    • Perform market research.
  • Must be a highly self-motivated professional with the ability to identify priorities and complete projects.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, computer, and written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ideal candidate must communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking and strategic planning of complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work in an organization with multiple stakeholders across technology domains and across leadership levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.

 

Education/Experience

  • Degree in physical sciences, preferably electrical or computer engineering. Advanced degree and/or MBA preferred.
  • One to three years of relevant business experience (new business development, technology licensing or product development/marketing experience) in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Preferred work experience:
    • Product development and introduction
    • Negotiating agreement terms
    • Understanding of contract language
  • Industry experience in semiconductors and device fabrication is ideal.
