Essential Functions:

  • Serve as Benefits Administrator for Purdue Research Foundation (PRF)/University Development Office (UDO) staff. 
  • Oversee all aspects of benefits selection, enrollment, and management for PRF/UDO staff.
  • Perform recruiting functions for PRF/UDO and provide hiring feedback as needed.

Additional Responsibilities


  • Conduct benefits counseling sessions with new employee(s).
    • Prepare benefits enrollment PowerPoint, new employee packets, and other related materials to assist staff in benefits selection.
    • Interface with Purdue University benefits staff regularly regarding resolution of employee issues.
  • Create and enter new employee records in ADP.
  • Create and enter new employee records in Benefitfocus.
  • Verify new employees within the first three days of employment, utilizing EVerify.
  • Create and enter new employee records in Fidelity’s PSW.
  • Report all new hires to the State of Indiana.
  • Prepare Personnel Action (PA) forms for submission to the University.
  • Serve as backup for providing new employee orientations.
  • Oversee annual open enrollment for PRF staff, providing assistance to individual and remote staff as necessary.
    • Schedule and publicize open enrollment information sessions for staff annually.
  • Coordinate benefits enrollment/changes in status.
  • Counsel exiting staff regarding COBRA.
  • Stay up-to-date on all current benefits and act as liaison between employees, benefits providers, and Purdue University benefits staff.
  • Attend monthly conference calls/meetings with Purdue University benefits staff.
  • Attend benefit information sessions as provided by the University and PRF.
  • Prepare and distribute annual 1094C and 1095C forms to the IRS and all employees, per Affordable Care Act regulations.
  • Coordinate biannual Fidelity seminars and individual sessions for staff.
  • Maintain and update PRF’s 403(b) and 457 (b) retirement plans as needed with counsel’s assistance.
  • Process worker’s compensation claims and assist staff with claim issues.  Serve as liaison with Purdue University regarding claims.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Purdue University policies and benefits.
  • Create new job codes in ADP as needed.


  • Coordinate annual OSHA training.
  • Maintain OSHA log and reporting process.
  • Complete first report of injury reports and interface with Purdue University as needed.
  • Post annual injury report at PRF/UDO.


  • Lead and participate on interview teams.
  • Review and rank resumes.
  • Schedule interviews as needed.
  • Screen, interview, and assist in selection of candidates for PRF/UDO positions.


  • Other projects and duties as assigned by the Chief Human Resources Officer.
  • Participate on Policies and Procedures Committee and provide policy recommendations.
  • Prepare special events flyers and/or PowerPoint presentations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR and benefit programs.
  • Ability to provide coaching to employees at exempt and non-exempt levels.
  • Knowledge of labor laws and HR programs.
  • Ability to routinely handle confidential and sensitive information. 
  • Excellent attention to detail required.
  • Strong proofreading skills required.
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to keep information confidential required.
  • Must have the ability to stay organized, take the initiative to solve problems and handle multiple and varied tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance are requirements of this position.


  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of HR-related experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of benefits desirable.
